With the holiday season fast approaching, the Dezeen Watch Store team has curated a selection of watches that would make ideal Christmas gifts.
One of the most popular watches this year was The Bradley timepiece by US brand Eone. The Bradley was originally created for blind people and is designed so that you can tell the time without needing to look at your watch.
We also launched Australian brand AÃRK‘s 002 collection, which comprises eight watches based on theconcepts of time and space. The unisex Eclipse watch has proved a favourite with customers. It features black and gold duo-tone plating designed to reference night and day, and the moon’s movement in relation to the earth and the sun.
This year we saw a return of more traditional and petite watch faces, such as the dial on the V03P by Swedish designer David Ericsson for Void watches. The clean and minimal watch is available in five different colours and designed specifically for women.
The Grand Tour Dual Time watch – designed by late Postmodern architect Michael Graves – has also proved popular. The two-dial design is ideal for those with a New Years resolution to travel more – allowing the wearer to set one to show the time at home and the other to a timezone abroad.
Hong Kong brand MMT launched its first ever wristwatch this year. The watch includes a hidden mechanism used to adjust the time, designed to replace the conventional crown and allow the watch to remain completely circular and minimal.
For the more indecisive buyer, we recommend the Halo watch by late Italian designer Massimo Vignelli forPierre Junod. The watch includes three interchangeable “halos” that allow the wearer to change the colour of the watch depending on mood and style.
This year also saw an update to the popular Instrmnt 01 Series. The minimal watch now features a new leather strap manufactured by craftsmen in the Bavarian forest of Germany.
The BN0211 – Braun‘s latest model – previewed at leading watch fair Baselworld this year, and launched exclusively on our website. The new slimline watch has proved popular since its launch, and is available with a 36-millimetre case and black dial, and a petite 32-millimetre case and white dial.
Piet Hein Eek also launched his first watch collection with Dutch brand LEFF Amsterdam this year. The designs for the Tube Series rely on analogue components. The watch face is surrounded by a serrated ring with cog-like indentations and protrusions that indicate the hours.
