Setting the Nautica Watch Band

Adjusting the leather strap on a Nautica watch is as simple as using a different punch hole when putting the watch on. Metal watch bands for the Nautica use a metal clasp that must be disconnected from the band to alter the fit. To separate the clasp from the band, press down on the spring bar inserted into the holes affixing the clasp to the band. Use a pin or a small paper clip. The Nautica watch band should separate easily from the clasp and can be reinserted into any of the row of holes along the clasp sides. This allows you to lengthen or shorten the metal watch band slightly. If you find that the band is still too small or too large, you may need to take it into a local specialty store or repair shop to have it re-sized. Nautica watch owners may also be able to order additional links to expand a metal watch band.
Setting the Time on the Watch

Most Nautica watches feature a small knob called the “crown” on the side which allows users to set the date and time. To set the time on a watch you should pull the crown out as far as it can extend, without forcing it; usually you can feel two clicks. Turn the crown up or down to move the hands on the watch dial to the appropriate time. When finished, push the crown all the way back into its original position and the watch should resume normal movement. Setting the date on a Nautica watch with the function is similar; just pull the crown out until it clicks once. Turn the crown up or down to change the date. Some clocks set the date by turning the crown counter-clockwise, and allow users to set the day by turning the crown clockwise.
Replacing the Watch Battery

Owners should not attempt to replace their own Nautica watch batteries. Nor is it recommended that the owner take the watch to a local jeweler. In fact, the company recommends that Nautica owners send the watch to a service center for a replacement watch battery. Nautica watches do not open easily and require special tools to prevent damage to the case or the interior. This is especially true of watches that are water resistant and have gaskets to help keep water from entering the casing when submerged.
Water Resistance

Many Nautica watches are water resistant, but only to certain depths. When buying a water resistant watch, take care to note the markings on the watch and its instructions. Nautica watches can be used around water and even in water with the proper care.

No watch is completely waterproof. As such, a water resistant Nautica watch only stays resistant in water as long as the exterior remains intact, and none of the buttons are depressed. A “screw-down” crown may also be on watches to increase water resistance. The crown screws tightly into the case before submersion to seal it properly against the water.
